EPIC Insurance Acquires E. Broox Randall & Sons

EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants has acquired E. Broox Randall & Sons Inc., a Los Angeles-based agency with a history dating back to 1922. This acquisition is designed to strengthen EPIC’s high-net-worth (HNW) personal lines and commercial small business capabilities in the Southwest region. Under the new ownership, Randall’s personal lines book will integrate into EPIC Private Client, while its small business commercial accounts will be managed through EPIC Main Street and the firm’s existing Los Angeles commercial operations.

The move comes as the Southern California insurance market faces significant challenges for high-net-worth coverage. Admitted carriers have been retreating from the region, a trend accelerated by the January 2025 wildfires. This contraction has pushed more high-value residential risks into the surplus market, making it increasingly difficult for clients to secure full limits. Consequently, brokers with deep local knowledge and established carrier relationships have become essential for navigating this environment.

Richard M. Bryant, who has led Randall Insurance since 1988, stated that the partnership allows the firm to maintain its client-focused service model while gaining access to the resources and scale of a national brokerage. Kevin Daley, president of EPIC Private Client, noted that the acquisition aligns with the firm’s strategy of seeking partners with deep local roots to expand its regional footprint.

This transaction is part of a broader expansion strategy for EPIC’s Private Client practice, which has been active since at least late 2024. The firm has previously acquired several agencies in Chicago, including Phillips Bros. Insurance Agency, Chartwell Insurance, and Price Insurance, as well as the Michigan-based Korotkin Insurance Group in September 2026. EPIC, which reports over $1.4 billion in revenue and employs more than 3,000 people, focuses its acquisition efforts on markets where it already possesses established capabilities.

For brokers and industry stakeholders, this deal highlights the growing disparity between the rising number of affluent individuals—with over 440,000 new millionaires added in the U.S. in 2025—and the diminishing availability of admitted carriers to cover their assets. As standard markets continue to vacate certain regions, national brokers with specialized capacity are increasingly acquiring local boutique agencies to fill the resulting service gap.

Why it matters

This acquisition underscores the ongoing consolidation trend among brokers seeking to secure specialized carrier access for high-net-worth clients in increasingly volatile catastrophe-prone markets.
