Aumovio Warns Chip Prices to Surge on AI Demand
German automotive parts maker Aumovio SE said semiconductor prices will rise sharply next year, driven by booming demand from artificial-intelligence data centers. The Frankfurt-based supplier, which produces radar sensors, camera systems and connected-cockpit electronics for customers including BMW AG, Volkswagen AG, Ford Motor Co. and BYD Co., expects a gross negative earnings impact of about €1 billion.
Interim finance head Claus Bauer told analysts the AI-driven squeeze on chip supplies, which automotive customers find hard to match, will “explode” in 2027. He described the cost dynamic as “mind-boggling” and noted that chip makers could double the capacity sold to data centers, a segment he said has “no price sensitivity whatsoever.”
Aumovio plans to mitigate the cost pressure by passing some of the higher material prices on to its clients through price increases, while also revamping products and cutting broader spending. The company’s annual contract negotiations with suppliers mean that pricing can be reset at the start of each year.
Why it matters
Rising chip costs could erode margins for automotive suppliers and OEMs, prompting price adjustments across the vehicle supply chain.
